It was a LONG drive from Krakow to Budapest. The roads in Poland aren’t quite the best, and there was a detour that threw us way off track! Without GPS guidance in Slovakia we had to relay on gasp MAPS! But we ended up arriving without many problems. We were so exhausted that we only had the energy to go out for dinner and then crash at the hostel last night. This morning we decided to try and take care of the car issues (needed a replacement tire and to fix the window) and it was a total disaster. Took almost 4 hours all said and done, and we still don’t have a tire or a working window! We hadn’t eaten all morning either… so we finally got back to the city and had late breakfast/lunch or early dinner at 5:30! Uggh..
But we finally had a chance to start exploring the city – decided to stop real quick to post. I’ll have to send the pics tomorrow! Until soon!
The drive from Prague to Krakow was a mixed bag of incredible mountain
roads, decent highways and some of the worst roads I have ever driven
on. We couldn’t believe that they were considered highways! As our
last night in Prague was a late one (4am) – Matt took a decent nap in
the car while I battled with the crazy drivers on the 2 lane highways!
Once arriving in Krakow we quickly found our hostel. Much to our
delight the Hostel was incredibly clean and centrally located. After
dropping off our stuff we headed into the old part of the town.

We have arrived! After a long night, and a longer drive here – we are
in the hostel safe and sound! The night life in Krakow is much
livelier than I expected! I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow… until
Our last night in Prague was all about discovering the rest of the
city. Not only was the weather perfect – we had a splendid guide with
our friend from Couchsurfing, Anna! It was great to meet somebody who
lives in Prague and who knew how to get around. Not that we ever got
lost on our own… ahem.

The back seat will miss you lots.
But we shall press on!
To some of us, the image of pearly white gates makes us think of heaven. On a day like today, nothing could be closer to the truth! We decided to drive a bit outside of Prague to a town called Plzen – the birthplace of pilsner beer!

So after trying to speak to the Czech Police about the ticket, he finally understood that he had to wait at his car until the officer showed up. Once he did it was just a matter of listening to the guy lecture about parking signs and paying him 1000 Czech crowns! D’OH! (
I’ll let you guys do the conversion) Then we were off!!
After a late first night, we actually got a decent start on the
morning! Getting out by 10am! We decided to walk up to the Prague
Castle and ended up spending the majority of the day there. We opted
for a 2 hour guided tour as well as a ticket to fully explore the
castle. We really lucked out with the weather again as you can see in
the pictures! Learning about the history of Prague was quite
interesting as well!
